Here are the small things which have made me smile this week, my Happy Days:

1. I have started my secondment and I’m enjoying it so much! The volume of work to get through is a little daunting but it feels so great to get stuck in, come up with new ideas and try to put some of my creativity into my work. I have 5 weeks left and I know it will fly by. I just hope my colleagues around me are happy.

2. Violet has just got over ANOTHER vomiting bug. That’s 3 in 3 weeks (thanks very much pre-school!). So while I’m absolutely fed up of dealing with sick, I’m happy we are through the latest one!

3. Ezra got his first shoes. More about that one later….

4. Ezra is saying Mama on request. It doesn’t have meaning for him yet but I love hearing sounds other than “uh”! He also sings a little tune which we have sung to him from birth.

5. We have had a few weekends now with no plans. As much as I love seeing friends and family, I really crave time where it’s just the 4 of us. Our weeks are a blur with the daily grind. So to have had so many weekends where we have pottered around the house, gone for walks, explored new parks has been really perfect.

Here are the small things which have made me smile this week:

1. I have a start date for my secondment position. I start on 1st February so only a week to go. I’m feeling thoroughly energised and positive about the role so I really hope it does end up being as good as I anticipate!

2. Ezra is now saying da-da. He could make the sound before however now he will do it on request. I’m still not convinced he knows it could mean Daddy but we’re working on that! I’m desperate to hear “Mummy”.

3. Violet’s development is coming along so fast. Last night when we got home I had the task of getting dinner cooked, eaten, baths, bed and sleep for 2 children in under 45 minutes. Ezra was cross and tired and looking for comfort. But I had to get the dinner on. So I asked if Violet could help me with Ezra. She immediately ran off and got a noisy toy he likes and sat with him pressing buttons. Then she started dancing and pulling funny faces to keep him entertained. A few weeks ago she would have either joined in with the whining or refused to have Ezra anywhere near her toys. It’s wonderful to see them interacting and Violet getting the reward of smiles and laughter from her little brother.

4. It was our second wedding anniversary on Monday. 2 whole years of being married!! I got Joe some cotton socks as a token gift ūüôā

5. We have a weekend of no plans. As much as I love being busy I also love lazy free weekends.

Here are the small things which have made me smile this week:

1. Ezra has started walking. Wobbly steps with his arms in the air for balance but he is really improving every day. His determination to stand steadily over and over again has really impressed me. There have been many falls and a few bumped heads but he is clearly so pleased with himself. His first steps were on 9th January. Such a clever boy!

2. I have been offered a 2 month secondment position at work. The interviews were this week and I found out I was successful yesterday. I’m really excited to do something new for a while!

3. Violet is wearing bunches today for the first time EVER! She looks super cute. I have tamed the curls (a bit!).

4. Daffodils! I love Spring.

5. Violet is learning to write her name. Interestingly she writes it right to left so it is spelt backwards.

What Katy Said

Here are the small things which have made me smile this week:

1. Violet has been singing songs she is learning at pre-school for their nativity play. It’s so cute hearing her singing these songs and getting excited about putting on the show for everybody. She’s taken great delight in telling me which part everyone will be playing. Violet in an Angel and her best friend is the donkey!

2. I’m drafting this post on my commute home and the member of staff at Oxford Circus has just sung “mi-ind the clo-o-sing doors” to the tune of Silent Night.

3. Life with 2 kids is definitely harder than with 1. I think after the initial ‘this is impossible’ phase we started to get into the swing of things and found our rhythm. However now that Ezra is really developing his personality he isn’t quite the laid back easy baby he has been! Joe text me yesterday saying he was starting to realise how tricky it is to deal with 2 littlies who both have minds and thoughts of their own. I found myself nodding and smiling!

4. In this age of smart phones and tablets I have just seen a fellow commuter using their Nokia 3210. My first mobile phone!

5. Today is Ezra’s first birthday. I am looking back to his birth with so much relief that he arrived safely but also so thankful that the experience healed traumatic wounds from Violet’s birth.

What Katy Said

Last week we were reminded what a frightening world we live in.¬† The mindless killing of people in Paris and Beirut has really shocked me.¬† I have been appalled by acts of terrorism in the past but something about these consecutive atrocities really made me shudder.¬† But we cannot allow these monsters to win – to take away our freedom, our ‘every day’, to steal our children’s innocent view¬†of the wonderful world around us.

It’s the ‘every day’ which brings me real happiness, those little things which probably don’t sound that exciting but which make up my life.¬† My bubble.¬† So here are the small things which have made me smile this week:

1. We went on a Northern family tour last weekend. It was so lovely to see them and for them to meet Ezra for the first time. Violet was at ease immediately and both kids were a credit to us.

2. A really good friend is looking to move near us with her husband and baby. A few years ago it felt like we didn’t know many people local to us. But now we have great neighbours and fantastic friends who are making their way back to Bromley.

3. I am crocheting a hat for Ezra. It’s a new stitch to me¬†called gum drop and I’m really enjoying it. Plus it’s great to have a small project which I can do on the train to work.

4. Ezra is better. Finally. I’ve been a little quiet on my blog for the last week or so because I was fretting over him. It’s been one thing after another for the last 6 weeks. I even took him to hospital last week where he was put on a nebuliser. But now he seems to be really much better. I hope it lasts!!

5. On Monday I took up my free Amazon Prime trial. I put in a fairly big order of birthday and Christmas presents and lo and behold half of them were delivered that evening!! 10 years ago did we ever imagine Internet shopping would be like this?? Hopefully I can nab some bargains in Black Friday and get a few more presents sorted before the trial ends!!

That’s what’s been keeping me cheery over the last week, what’s been making you smile?¬† Tell me about your Happy Days.
